Hello from the hills! I'm Debbie North, a personal trainer and nutrition coach based in a small town in California's Sierra Nevada mountains.
The fitness and nutrition world often gets stuck in neverending patterns of navel-gazing to tout 'what' you should be doing to feel better, live longer, lose weight, etc. The problem is that what works for one person isn't necessarily what will work for anyone else.
Of course what you eat and what you do for exercise is important. However, I've found that exploring the questions around 'how' and 'why' you do things is a much more powerful approach to help folks like you get lasting results.
When you explore the hows and the why's of your actions you start noticing patterns and habits. That's really the first giant step towards change. But it takes practice to build the skills so you can successfully replace unwanted habits with preferred habits. That's why I created this group.
Change is hard. Together we can make it a friendlier and less daunting journey. Together we can all try to do a little more, a little better because we ALL have things we are working on to live better and feel better.
Even though we are spread all over the map, I want you to feel like we're all sitting together in a virtual living room where you can relax and be yourself, where you feel free to ask questions and share your stories and feel safe, free of judgment and shame. You're not alone.
After many years of coaching others, I know how hard it can be to make the changes you need to in order to lose weight, get fit and regain health. Sometimes the effort required to get from where you are to where you want to be can seem insurmountable. Or maybe it seems that no matter what you do, nothing changes. Or perhaps you lost weight and got healthy but the people surrounding you are not as supportive as you'd like.
You're not alone.
You're not alone in feeling confused about what to eat or what exercises to do. You're not alone struggling through the holidays. You're not alone wondering why no one talks about menopause, hormone imbalances, and how bodies generally change as we get older.
I created this space to bring us together to learn and share and grow. To get the support you need from myself and others on the same journey. To find the science- and evidence-based answers you seek to your questions about fitness and nutrition. To have access to the tools and resources that will help you feel great for the rest of your life.
Everyone is welcome here! I don't care whether you follow and eat vegan, keto, low carb, gluten-free, low fat, or Mediterranean fare. What I do care about is that the food you eat nourishes your body and spirit in a way that helps you reach your goals and is compatible with your body and your lifestyle. All are welcome here.
If you can't imagine finding common ground with, or having compassion for, someone who doesn't eat like you, then you might not enjoy this community
All fitness levels are welcome here too! It's tough fitting more movement into busy lives. How to pursue the activities you love without getting hurt is a big thing with me. Ask for support and you shall receive it.
Struggling with holidays, vacations or special occasions? We have a place to talk that through also.
You aren't alone. Thank you for being here. Hope to see you inside!
